2nd. Rose at 6, saw a ship at a distance, which came along side of us about 12 noon, her name was the D'Auvergne, bound for the Bay of Honduras, my Father made a very good riddle, which was "Why is the Sophia like a regulator"? Ans: ' because all ships go by her.' She being so slow a sailer.

3rd. Rose early, went on deck, saw land for the first time since I left England, it was the Island of Deseada, in the course of the day we passed (the largest French Island in the W..Indies) Guadaloupe and Montserat, saw Antigua at a distance. We are now in the Caribbean Sea.

4th. Passed close to Montserrat which is beautifully covered with Cedar trees, it is in about 16¾°N 62¼°W. Saw the rock of Rodondo.

5th. Caught 2 more dolphins, part of which I had for dinner.

6th. Sunday. Drank my Mother's health and all my friends in England, which I mean to do every 6th. of the month, in commemoration of having left London on that day.

7th. The Caribbean sea as smooth as glass and tho in about 17°N.L. I don't feel so hot as I did in June in England, but I never wear any coat or waistcoat.

8th. Passed Altavela in the night, the Capt called me in the morning and gave me and all the passengers a dose of salts.

9th.March. A black pilot in a canoe (the first I had ever seen) came on board.

10th. Saw the blue mountains of Jamaica. Anchored in Morant Bay, the appearance of which was blooming and beautiful.
